Here's a catalog of his personal library. Systematically work through one of his many threads of interest that you have the most interest in.

You go do an eighth or more of shrooms in a dark quiet room, or toke up on 30+ mg of DMT.

Memes aside, the psychedelic experience can be so exuberant, profound, poetic, and otherworldly it’s not hard to see why McKenna was so impassioned about it. I think we need more and more intelligent public thinkers willing to research the nature of the psychedelic experience firsthand.

Having tripped heavily and often and also heavily read classic and modern trip reports (from Huxley to McKenna to Shulgin to Erowid), I don't think that we need more "research" into the psychedelic experience, at least not for the sake of the literary or phenomenological canon. We already know what hallucinogens do, and how they differ; the only good reason to take hallucinogens for inquiry's sake is so that the reader of previous accounts can actually understand what previous accounts are saying.

Despite this, it is extremely important that psychedelics enter mainstream psychiatric practice. MDMA will lead the way, but that's just because it got military funding due to research on PTSD treatment. Psilocybin will probably follow; ketamine is already happening, although a dissociative rather than a psychedelic. LSD, well, we'll see.
