Just remember 80-20 rule. 80% of the reading on /lit/ is done by 20% of the people.

Except that since it's 4chan. To quote Gibson, it's like some crazed experiment in social Darwinism run by a bored researcher with one finger permanently on the fast-forward button. So it's not an 80:20 rule, it's a 95 - 5 rule.

4chan is the den of superficial knowledge. You don't come here to discuss books, or history, or whatever. You come to feel like you are invested in a subject without an ounce of competence in it.

This is mostly, but not entirely, true. There are some intelligent, well-read people on /lit/. It's not many, though. I would guess a dozen at most.

yo if its the newer cambridge edition, tell me if its worth the price. cambridge's (di giovanni) science of logic apparently was a massive step forward in scholarship

Meh, I'm sure 90% actually read, it's just that they only read what they're told is good and have no actual functional knowledge of what they're reading, or why it's good.

>> No.11209696

i like writing more than reading so all my favorite books are references and syntactic guides to idiom and sociolect. I'm mostly vulnerable when it comes to reading circles because people enjoy reading more than anything else.

Novels are fun, but only if I can read them intensely and not just to get the story.

You’re mostly right. I used to buy a lot of books and barely read them, but I realized I was doing that and I actually want to be a writer, so I stopped buying books and started renting them from the library. I am much more likely to read them if I get them from the library because I don’t get the little dopamine high from a purchase. I’ve read 18 books so far in 2018, trying to get 52 for the year but I may be slightly under.
