50 pages every day comes out to about a book a week. That’s a good pace. Just be consistent.

>> No.11116273

It's not how much you read. It's how much you retain.

There are autists on this board who probably blaze through 4 or 5 books a week but aren't savoring and actually enjoying what they're reading. Furthermore, I doubt they're even comprehending what they're reading.

So yeah, read at your own pace and don't worry about impressing the antisocial basement dwellers of /lit/.

Counting pages is the mark of a pseud. Everyone who actually reads books knows that given how different books are printed differently, and how certain prose styles and/or concepts are more difficult to understand, the number of pages you are going to read each day is going to change according to the book.
Good luck reading the critique of pure reason 50 pages a-day understanding everything Kant writes.

according to how to read a book the first reading should be done without stopping as if you're reading a novel. so even a hard philosophical text should be read fairly quickly on the first read. second read is a different story.

The goal for some people isn't to get to the end of the book quickly. If I like a paragraph I might re-read it or stop and think about the ideas it conveys rather than continue onto the next page straight away in order to meet my page quota for the day.
