I guess we're excluding short stories since they're a topic on their own? So it's stuff over 20,30 pages?

>The Iron Man (Ted Hughes)
Best children's story ever. No, the animated film isn't better. Giant space bat angel monster = awesome.

>Typhoon (Joseph Conrad)
More down-to-earth & better, IMO, than Heart of Darkness. Stolid, completely unimaginative ship's captain in the China Sea thinks hurricanes have been exaggerated and there's no need to avoid them...

>The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar (Roald Dahl)
Nothing too profound, but uber-comfy & readable.

>The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg (Mark Twain)
Twain loves to see pomposity punctured. His protagonist here does that super-slickly.

>The Bear (William Faulkner)
There are two versions of this; I mean the longer one including the killing of the bear . As Shelby Foote said, Faulkner can describe the "texture of things" better than anyone. The moment where one of the hunters is alone in the woods and he suddenly realises the bear is looking at him even though he can't see it... oh boy...
