I don't know..probably some neuroscience texts if you want to know what is actually going down (it doesn't interest me). nearly every novel deals with consciousness in some variation.

instead of wasting your time on books you should watch the film ''Sans Soleil'' by Chris Marker. Film has made books obsolete, at any rate. And Sans Soleil is the best film about consciousness i have ever seen.

nope, it is just a fact. i love novels, but to be honest i think film expresses consciousness more directly, captures images more effectively, renders human experience with more truth and power and is generally more actively great today than literature. I think if they could, many of the greatest novelists would have made films.
