Is /lit/ any good at helping with prefixes?

Creating a /tg/ related game, and I have an idea for a race. The suffix will be -shade probably, but I need something ominous and mysterious, somewhat evil for the prefix.

Necroshade, xenoshade, etc.

"Umbra" is Latin for shadow or shade. That should do.

why would you even post that? do you have asperger's?

Huh, cool. Now I want to stick a suffix on umbra. XD

Suffixes that fit my prefix description?

umbramancers would mean shadow wizards, if that's something close to what you're going for, I guess.

Very tempting. Thank you /lit/.

I think /lit/ and fa/tg/guys get along well.

Sorry, misread the question.

Mal- is an all purpose prefix for bad things
Nox/Noc- means night
dol- has implications of darkness and misery

my vote's for either "stunna" or "lamp"

Actually, it is kinda lame. :\

I want to use noc/nox, because that fits very well.

I know you're not looking for suffixes, but the Russian -grad is pretty cool for townships.

How does Umbragrad (city of shadow) sound?

Thank you.

>>1104742
I don't think I'll use the umbra for the race name, but you've just named this race's command center, /lit/tle helper. :D

I thought it sounded snazzy too. Good luck with your game, and come back if you feel the creative juices dwindling.

Anus-shades. They have the power to invade vampire's anuses.

I hope your not one of those Anons who make threads about avoiding fantasy cliches.

Gregshade
Timshade
Aaronshade
Mattshade
Joeshade
Heathershade
Samanthashade
Waltershade

Those are my suggestions.

Looking at your suffix, -shade, I'd like to offer some advice.

Don't do it.

You know what makes shitty fantasy? Contrived, derivative, juvenile names and places. It's why Paolini's fantasy is ridiculous to any adult and it's why George RR Martin is respected so highly.

You are better off looking into old Welsh names or sticking with anon's suggestion of Latin. The moment you have a race of "Necroshades" running around is the moment you've pretty much ruined your fantasy world.

I didn't want to sound harsh, btw, just wanted to point it out.
