I actually think they're about even. The subject matter approach in the movie felt linear, which was the opposite of Ellis' intention. It detracted from the mania of the character, although Christian Bale brought that back in his portrayal. The cinematography work, the composition of each shot, create an aesthetic that the book could not manage. The book creates a list of brands that surround, and ultimately become meaningless. Bale brings those things to life for us. His portrayal overall 9.5/10. The mania was a bit too manic. Perhaps that's authentic, but the word "forced" is evoked.

I'm glad they included the monologues that they did. Whitney Houston, Huey Louis. I would have like to see the travel monologue from the other businessman, that added to the depth of the yuppie world. That passage was a revelation. Bateman is not alone. The animal killing would also have established his character more.

Also, the Tom Cruise elevator passage would have been so easy to include. I'm having trouble understanding why it didn't happen.

I dont think he was going for a realistic approach, though.

Wasn't he? His portrayal of emotional artifice was near perfect. He felt a little too laughy. Again, that matches descriptions of bipolar disorder, something I myself have. To my experience, it's not laughy.

I love the insecure fanboyism. Well, if Trump likes it then it's a good pizza. These are pretty much schoolboys fighting over which video game console is the best.

The book is good for repeat readings; its manic, non-linear, style makes it enjoyable to open any page; go to the start of the chapter, and read.
The film is a masterpiece too; however, it was produced by someone who could not be further away from Yuppie Culture so it takes an entirely different look into the subject.
