Who is the best female author? I've noticed my entire library is male, so I need a FEmale author. A good one. Thanks.

I liked Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson, and also the Balkan and Levant trilogies by Olivia Manning.

Oh, and Kathy Acker. Weird, but great.

Mainly just Eliot and O’Connor. I genuinely learned a lot about writing from reading her collected non-fiction. Her novels are strange (still worth reading) but her short stories are really where she shines. I unironically could see religious writers studying “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” as a seminal piece of religious fiction, it has some serious depth.

McCullers is mostly a pet-interest, she’s a phenomenon rather than a fully developed artist, but still interesting nonetheless and a naturally good stylist.

PRO TIP: if you're in a progressive female-dominated situation e.g. University seminar, a good thing to say to get on the right side of feminists is:

"Wuthering Heights is really good; it could almost have been written by a man."

I have at least five books each by these female authors. They might be worth a try:
Margaret Atwood, Jane Austen, A.S. Byatt, Margeurite Duras, Elizabeth Gaskell, Anne Hebert, Shirley Jackson, Toni Morrison, Alice Munro, Jane Urquhart.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact it guarantees digestion by the layman. For wiser minds she made nonfiction. All an intellectual really needs from Atlas Shrugged is John Galt's Speech.

Ayn Rand without a doubt. The best part is that she would agree with the sentiments itt a say it was a goddamn shame a man hadn't formulated Objectivsm before her. The fact that Rand was what she was as a woman was a one in a million flash in the pan coincidence. It was so much more likely for a man to coin Objectivism that the fact it was her anyway is staggering.
You can thank the horror that was Soviet Russia for being the pressure cooker that formed her. I am convinced that the formulator of Objectivism HAD to come from communist hell and was incapable of being born in the freedom that was American capitalism. Even though Objectivism is the bar-none greatest defense and proof of of Capitalism that came into existence.
