Does Peterson actually believe in god? Or is it just a façade to try and please the conservative side of his base?

If he came straight out and said he did NOT believe in god, do you think this would help grow or diminish his fan base?

It probably would hurt his fanbase since becoming a bible thumper is in vogue right now that they would start to see him as uncool. I mean his main demographic is basically people like /pol/ and christianity is such a fad to them.

Eh, I would argue that a good portion of /pol/, especially old /pol/, is some kind of weird Vedic/Germanic pagan crossbreed.

He seems to believe in some sort of archetypal, primordial "meaning" in the universe that I guess you could call "God"

I doubt very much he believes in the God of the Bible though, although retarded biblethumpers won't realise this and just assume he's a conservative Christian

>> No.10957823

>>10957710
I think he’s a sort of syncretist mystic who believes something like “God is in our innermost selves” or “God is an immanent yet simultaneously transcendent principle permeating the universe” or he doesn’t believe in a personal anthropomorphic God etx

He's yet another retarded pantheist who claims to believe in God while reserving to himself the right to redefine God as whatever suits him.
With Spinoza it was "muh nature," with Peterson it's "muh archetypes." These fuckers are a diamond dozen

It's a facade, but it has nothing to do with pleasing any conservatives or whatever. I highly doubt his fanbase would be affected (all mostly apatheistic youth), nor his clout with conservative media/commentators. It's a personal issue for him. He is intellectually stuck and trying to worm his way out of it via platitudes and equivocations.

>He is intellectually stuck and trying to worm his way out of it via platitudes and equivocations.
He thinks God is a problem he can solve or figure out but knows deep down that he can't and won't concede that fact. He can't wrap his head around faith.

The ambiguity of his beliefs may be in order to please the other political side, or the Atheists within academia, instead of trying to get affection from those with faith. Doing a whole series examining the Bible's stories one by one isn't exactly something an Atheist would probably do just to please conservatives, when just a regular ideological nod in their direction may suffice.

no, and most christians do not and never have which is why soc was nasty towards the athenians in regards to the olympian gods. most religious use religion as a way of policing thought and showing in-group membership. every single christian ive met online sins, behaves exactly like secular people and is essentially a hedonist. their religion is even predicated on emotionalism and feeling good about existence. pure self-hypnosis and performance for the herd. absolutely pathetic to give in to

Seeing as everyone else has given shit answers, I'll give you his actual beliefs. He acknowledges that when he discusses religion, his expertise lies in the psychological significance, or 'metaphorical truth' of religion. When asked more directly whether he believes in God and the afterlife, he typically obfuscates the answer somewhat (e.g. "Well it depends what you mean by believe and it depends what you mean by God"), but when he is pushed he'll say that he can't rule it out, that the stories are possibly literally true as well as metaphorically true, and that he chooses to act as if God exists. I've heard him describe himself as both a Christian and not a Christian. He often criticises atheists who are pure materialists, for their poor understanding of philosophy.

So essentially, he's an agnostic Christian existentialist.
