Should I read this? Some friends of mine seem interested in it, and would be down to read it with me. Would you recommend? If not, what else would you recommend we check out if we're interested in media manipulation/mass psychology?

Propaganda - Jacques Ellul
Propaganda + Crystalising Public Opinion - Edward Bernays
The Crowd: A study of the popular mind - Gustave le Bon (last time i recommend this some anon said it was out of date, so take with a grain of salt)

it's good. i think moldbug's description of how the cathedral works to manipulate public opinion is more compelling and accurate, however.

what did moldbug say¿ i find his texts over-verbose and pointless for the most part, so a summary would be nice

Eddy did nothing wrong

I would say watch the film of Manufacturing Consent and read Understanding Power instead. both Chomsky, first one is a bit dry but the film is okay.
