Do you ever look back at something you wrote a long time ago and can't help but cringe?

>> No.1094444

You will do the same for this thread

>>1094444
Oh shit.

I'm cringing right now.

>> No.1094480

got me OP, If i write something one night and read it the next day I feel so fucking miserable and I just delete everything I've written. I guess that's why I can't write properly. shit fucking sucks. I think it's a mental condition or something

>> No.1094486

Yes then I imagine my future self looking back at what I'm writing now and cringing

>> No.1094536

yeah, i think for a lot of writers, the key to becoming successful is to somehow desensitize themselves to the cringe reflex.

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do that all the fucking time. It's annoying since the best way to become a decent writer is just to write, and get better with practice, but my perfectionism forbids me from creating anything I consider "crap."
It's dumb, since there's no way I'm going to produce anything worthwhile after just one year of writing, but I struggle to remember that.

I think that's pretty much the key to anything. You're going to be bad when you start doing something, you can't just be brilliant immediately.

Isn't the looking-back-and-cringing a good thing, since it shows how you've since improved?

>> No.1094571

All the time.
>>1094562
Yes.
Like when I thought a body thong Supervillain outfit was a good costume for an antagonist. Doesn't work so well in a fantasy setting as it does in a comic book.

>> No.1094578

The worst thing I wrote was when I was about 10-11.
It some crappy aliens invade earth kind of thing, but were eventually defeated due to a water allergy (ripped from Gremlins, not signs).
Oddly enough, that wasn't the dumbest part. The dumbest part was how a satellite dish was dismantled and reconstructed in the space of a day, and all the aliens spoke like a retarded furby.

The 'fantasy epic' I started writing when I was 10. Christ on a bun, it was terrible...
