Read the Bell Jar, it's a coming of age story for people your age. It's written by a woman though, if you have a problem with that or don't think you'll relate, try Stoner by John William.

I'd say it's a good time to check Kerouac. If you're cool with On the Road you can jump to Big Sur and get a general view of what he did with his life.

It's inspiring when you're young and you have the chance to do dumb shit and think about it later. It's not a literal life guru guide.

Is everyone here a hipster or something? I'm 19 and I know enough to know that if you consider kerouac or vonnegut's books as something proper to read for life experience you're setting yourself up to expect nothing but a life of living in a trailer, eating canned sardines and hoping for food to rain from the sky so you can finally use your food money to up your weekly allowance of weed and maybe afford to buy crack every other weekend

>> No.10944860

It doesn't matter what specifically you read, as long as it's good. There aren't any books that you *need* to read at or before certain ages.

At your age what's important is making sure you're doing as much as possible to bang 18-19 year old girls, because in a couple years you'll be too old to do it and realize how much more attractive they are than women in their mid-20s, and deeply despair if you were never able to be with any.

>> No.10944880

damn what's with people on this board and posting big fucking canon books like finnegans wake and proust when they are 19. Fucking tryhards. Do you really think you'll get anything out of reading finnegan's wake at 19? Read salinger or some shit.
