I end been reading up on post-modernism lately and this is a perspective I've recently been exposed to that seems to be shared by a large (or at least significant) part of the population.

Still don't know if I agree, but I can definitely see where DFW and others are coming from.

I do back the whole New Sincerity thing though. Personally kind of sick or irony and cynicism. I think the fallout of postmodernism is making people realize how fucked up it is and that realization is re-invigorating people's desires for value and belief.

Pretty sure Dave would love Jordan Peterson. He's almost literally describing him in that text.

At this point in my understanding of Peterson I'd say I agree. Both seem pretty critical (JP moreso) of pomo, but who knows if DFW would have ever been as "political" as Peterson

hes talking about novelis.ss.ts.... the postmodern condition of art.. not evil "postmodernist philosophers"

DFW was a hack-fraud who peddled in the same post-modern gimmicks he pretended to deride

This is irrelevant. By now, the very frame on which we project the representations of our actual values are that of postmodern art. You can't disassociate Black Panther from black social justice, and so on. There need not be any postmodern philosopher even, we are still philosophically being nudged towards a postmodern frame of thought, precisely, at least in part, through art.

Tipycal american retard blaming an intellectual non-movement for a specific social phenomenon (the '68). I'm not even surprised at this point, I'm starting to think americans have something in their mind that makes them unable to think clearly.

i have no deep philosophical insights about DFW or the condition of post-modernism, but did anyone else who read his work somewhat agree with his feelings/assertions about society but remain unimpressed? i've read him and come away none the wiser every time.

We can only progress past postmodernism by building new movements on top of it. Trying to revert to an earlier standard would result in a postmodern pastiche of that standard and trying to deconstruct/critique it would result in something that's exponentially more postmodern.

>you can't dissociate Black Panther from Black social justice
Yes, you can. Read Zizek's review. Black nationalists, liberals and alt-righters all take out of it what they want. It's ideologically vague.

The whole thing is a mess. The framework doesn't make sense. There isn't a single postmodernist without a retarded understanding of phenomenology.
