Guilt keeps you from doing it again. So it is important because it forces you treat yourself with respect and accept that you shouldn't do it again and to make efforts to see that it doesn't.
Trying to get rid of guilt rather than using guilt as a motivator and reminder is absolutely idiotic. You should never just waste emotions willy nilly.
