easy. The ten longest, most difficult to read books in the entire world. Preferably in languages that I don't speak, however as I suppose I have to read them, to help me translate I would have a translation dictionary from a similar language. This way, I live for as long as possble.

I'm sorry, I'm retarded.

LOTR was ALWAYS considered to be one book by Tolkien. It's even set up that way; it had to be split into three books for publishing reasons (too long, duh).

There's no plot, it's a cat observing his master
social commentary etc
but it's written in a very engaging and amusing style, even if the translation is clunky sometimes.

Too good you didn't read the introduction first then.
I was out of my mind when the stupid translator spoiled the ending for me. I stopped reading intros after that, though I occasionally, very very carefully, skim through translation notes in case they seem useful.

>> No.1090128

(double posting, same guy as >>1090123)
The ending did come as a shock though, even though I knew the cat was going to die. I didn't expect it to be such a meaningless and stupid death. Still in the tradition of Soseki's works, I expected the master to die first, then the cat would decide life was not worth living like that, and eventually throw himself off a cliff or something.

Canada is a pretty good country, but the problem is it's excessive liberality. For instance, criminals can off get away with all sorts of illegal activity and get really light sentences.

Man is an animal like any other. We kill pigs, we kill sheep. In moderation, it is acceptable

I remember at one point something was described as being in apple pie order and it completely threw me. I assume it was not the original description but really inappropriate translation.

>> No.1090200

>>1090168
Our government doesn't kill people because it's better to let all criminals live than to kill one innocent.

If we had a perfect means of determining guilt or innocence, there might be room for debate; capital punishment might be justified for some crimes. But we don't. And as long as we don't, we can't take the risk of killing an innocent.
