>tfw my mom has read this novel
She recommended it to me when I was still in high school. I don't think either of us knew at the time that I would one day become a pretentious NEET fuck-up living with his mommy. I suppose I should just embrace it like Ignatius and at least stop cowering in self-hatred, but Lord it is hard... I can't read the book now because it fills me with such shame and embarrassment

That sounds comfy anon. Enjoy it. Be glad you didn't get kicked out out of the house and forced to join the military like me.

She feels sorry for me because I have a lot of psychological problems. Also she probably knows subconsciously that I'm basically staying alive for her sake and that if I were ever kicked out I would most likely kill myself. I can't join the military due to my history of self-harm and use of medication for depression and anxiety

The Great Gatsby is the greatest American novel and it's not even a contest. During World War II countless copies of Gatsby were sent overseas to American soldiers in order to boost morale. The results speak for themselves. Moby-Dick was a great book and all, but only F. Scott Fitzgerald tipped the scales in a world war. Nothing is ever going to beat that.

Ah, I too tried to off myself but that was after my parents had already died.

You still doing psychotherapy? I find occupational therapy works very well for me.
