Why does /lit/ read? I read books in order to enrich my imagination and equip myself with the ability to describe experiences better.

Pic unrelated, it's the 4chan chair.

I'm reading now because
1. It's fun for me
2. I want to mend some of my cognitive deficiencies
3. I have a bunch of books and ebooks lying around, so I might as well

I people to know that I'm intellectically superior

I read out of habit, because I love to know what others have to say about different matters while reflecting on my existence.

The underlying truth is that I have achieved nothing in my life, as I'm lazy and cowardly. I read to live, in my mind, though others.

i ask myself this often and i don't really have an answer for it.
why do i spend so much time on something and still don't know really why i do it?

1) For Fun - but what about the difficult books i read, which if i'm honest is not fun at times but istill force my waythrough them.

2) To feel intellectually superior: i hope this isn't an underlying motive, it's such a superficial motive which i hope i'm not acting on.

I have said to myself some times that i read to provide me with a variety of others thoughts and opinions and that will increase the breadth of my thought capacity. Each book and idea i read, is a building block in my mind that i can use to create thought.

Im not sure

I started to read as a child because i was an only child living in the middle of nowhere, just farms and cows around me.

I would go into my dad's office and take his books and read them (the first one was One Dimensional Man - Marcuse, then the next was The Social Contract). I would read those books so that i could have a chat with my dad when he came back from work, so initially it was to impress him.

But overtime it became a habit and a passion of my own

For intellectual superiority. Though I found that you don't even have to read much you can just name drop authors and most people are impressed
