Where do I go? Who do I ask? It's a niche as fuck book but it's got a lot of positive feedback. I think that maybe, if I'm lucky, I can make it a minor success. But I have no idea how to sell it to someone.

I'm aware.

I'm just having a bit of difficulty pitching this particular work to an agent because I have no idea what kind of work this would even be considered.
Maybe I should just go ahead and preface this by saying this is an erotic novel about a vampire and a masochistic human which started out as gay porn and slowly turned into a story about domestic abuse.

Hence why I'm having trouble defining the genre and pitching it.

The book's title is Hematoma and it's gonna stay that way. And it's definitely not trashy erotica by any means. It wouldn't fit in with your standard corset busters or wank material which is why I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with it.

I like your prose, and the poeticism in your diction sounds nice, which is interesting considering the subject matter.
It's up to you to decide what is meaningful to make with your talent, and i'd never say that writing erotica is "beneath" you. I just hope you decide to continue writing. I'm not gay so i don't think i'd ever buy your book tho, sorry.

It's a passion project. It developed from erotica to drama after I got out of an extremely abusive relationship, and eventually the story became about the abuse and psychological trauma dealt with by the MC through his relationship with the vampire. There's still a ton of sex scenes, but it becomes extremely dark and several of my readers confess they've either cried over it or had to stop reading because it hit too close to home.

I'd like to give some of the proceeds (if it sells) to benefit male victims of domestic abuse.

No, he emotionally and mentally abused me. He would watch me sleep and talk to me while I was sleeping, like deep sleep hypnosis, made me keep my Skype on at night so he could do it while we weren't together. I thought that was romantic for some reason. He also made me feel inadequate in bed, he was my first time and told me I was too tight for him to enjoy, and when I loosened up for him he told me I felt like a dead fish. He would masturbate and make me wait in the kitchen for him to finish because I wasn't good enough. He eventually started telling my family that something in my lifestyle wasn't real and that I was only doing it for attention, which they already had suspected. He also knew something I'd done in my past that I wasn't proud of and he would tell me things like "If anyone knew you did this, they would never want to be around you. I'm the only person who could love you even though you did this."

So I attempted suicide like three times because of him. I had started writing this book a little before I left him but it escalated after my third hospitalization and once he was out of my life.

Also I can really only talk about this stuff because I'm anonymous, most of my real-life friends and family don't know why I was hospitalized.

I mean, if I had to summarize...

The MC, Shay, is a masochist, addicted to pain, it's the only way he can get off. His main vice is tattoos and piercings. There's a scene in there where he tries to have a normal sexual encounter with someone and he ends up slicing his hand just to finish, partner calls him crazy and fucks off and Shay cries himself to sleep.

Shay then ends up confiding in his local tattoo artist, Yorick/"Ricky", who finds out that Shay has a pain fetish and decides to indulge him. A couple sessions in, Ricky confesses that he's a vampire and if Shay wants to go further, then he has to give up his blood. Vampires have no pulse, and they can't get hard without blood.

Shay agrees, there's tons of crazy vampire sex, eventually it crops up that Ricky is a sort of "outlaw" from the society that looks after the nation's vampires, although Shay isn't entirely clear on or doesn't believe the reasons.

But as time goes on, it becomes apparent that Ricky is going further with things than Shay is comfortable or tolerable of, all the while assuring Shay that because of his tendencies, he won't find someone else who would be with him the way Ricky is. It just escalates from there.
