Who else from those read a long thread finished this recently? Did I enjoy it?

probably not

it took me until my third readthrough to really get what was going on

I also had to reread it multiple times, but it was very rewarding in the end.
I loved it.

I did a few days back, and yes, I did. But I think I wouldn't have got much from it without reading about it on the wiki. I know enough about history and postmodernism and technique and occult/religious/psychological understanding to pick up on some of the themes, but I'm not sure I gained much from the novel that I didn't formulate myself from what I already knew. I'm sure I'll read it again though, because it did impress me much more than I thought it would in terms of realism and emotional content. I didn't realise the intent to destabilise the moods would be such a part of the humour ... and I didn't really enjoy those aspects because they felt hacky honestly, like a bad comedy sketch done by a smart, neurotic man who is eager to have a conversation to suss out some problems, but doesn't have anyone to talk to except himself.

i think the interweaving plots and large cast of characters made it difficult to fully appreciate what he was getting at it was good and i thought it was funny

desu i haven't read it for about four years and in that time i've spent some time studying the occult and the deep state's origins in nazi rocketry so i think i should probably go back and give it another readthrough

but on the other hand, there are a fuckton of books i haven't read yet and it might be better to get around to reading those. or writing that generation-defining masterwork i've been meaning to get out of my system, yknow

I was one of the early guys in the new year read-a-long. Finished it recently. I really liked it but feel like I'll need to reread it to truly appreciate it. It's all just a big mess in my head now
