Anyone read the Dictator's Handbook? That's basically how life is. Scientists with high social status might say they are there for the truth, and I'm sure that is not wrong, but they have to keep alliances alive in order to stay there. I do not believe we are perfectly honest. Trivers has written about self-deception and that's what happens. And I'm not even sure that capitalism is even so much the problem. I do think that it is not a good approach to say that capitalism has no ills. Clearly there are people better of as others. I'm in a position of priviledge myself; I never had to fear that I would run out of money. Well there's people who do. I'm not even sure what the solution is because oppression seems to be a property of our social system. But I want to admit that I'm in a position of priviledge.

There are plenty of people who do not get the chances that I've been given. And I feel like I should side with them. The brightest children could be stuck in poverty. Of course, they say, increased development will help them out of poverty; and I guess that's correct. At the same time there's people with a lot of cash. It is true what they say; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Must be a power law.

And let's make it perfectly clear I'm not a saint either. I think that if we understood that deep down we are all sinners that the world could become a better place. And I know you got the rich folks donating money and it seems a lot when you think in percentages. But the money they keep usually has more utility than when I would donate the same amount. If a poor person donates half his/her money she/he won't be able to feed him/herself, when the rich folks can get plenty of burgers still when they would do the same, unless they put themselves in such a high range of spending but whatever.
