The main thing is that there is not much evidence of any specific number of deaths. There's no reason to assume that 6 million Jews died, as opposed to 3 million or whatever number you can find reason to support.

On top of this, most of what were assumed to be systematic death via gas chambers were more likely to be death by gunshot or starvation, with planned mass gas killings only occurring as a smaller number of camps at best. There's also good reason to suspect that testimony extracted under torture in the Nuremberg trials is basically useless.

Hitler still completely fucked over a shit ton of people, but the positive evidence in favor of him specifically going out of his way to gas close to 6 million Jews + 6 million other undesirables is out weighed by the logistical issues that make this unlikely to be close to an accurate description of what happens. The fact that its basically illegal to discuss this in many countries makes many people rightly suspect of its exaggeration.

Both 'sides', where they be Neo-Nazi or Zionist apologist, ends up spewing ridiculous fluff in favor of their ideological goals though.
