Is the RSV any good? What is /lit/'s opinion?

My favorite by far is the NIV

What's up with that cover? I'd recommend the NRSV or KJV. NASB, ESV, and RSV are also good. Also check out Lattimore's translation of the NT

RSV has a couple of problems.

Firstly, it is based on outdated scholarship, so it doesn't incorporate all the latest discoveries (dead sea scrolls etc.).

Secondly, it arbitrarily uses different terms when god is addressed ("thou") versus when a person ("you") is addressed, however the original texts make no distinction.

It's very good, but outdated now. The NRSV is an updated version of it. The ESV is another revision of it with a conservative protestant slant.

NIV is ok for devotional reading, but it's got some issues. See here:

Clearly the translators of the NIV were divinely inspired to correct various mistakes with previous iterations

Good translation, bad book.

No.
You want the KJV and the NLT. Use the KJV as your main Bible and NLT as a secondary.

New Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition is where it's at

RSV-2CE is the best version.
