South Park did a pretty good job at telling you fags off.

Books are meaningless.

They're just for people who try to find deeper meanings in them which makes them worth a damn.

In reality, they're worth nothing.

LITERATURE IS ART IN THE FORM OF WRITING.

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW CINEMA DOES THE SAME THING, WHEN OFTEN THEY CUT OUT THE TEXT THAT MAKES IT LITERATURE?

FURTHERMORE, IF YOU WATCH A MOVIE FOR AN HOUR OR SO, YOU DON'T GET TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD BY READING THE BOOK. THROUGH THE NOVEL, THE CHARACTER HAS TIME TO EVOLVE AND SUCH, WHEREAS IN THE MOVIE, THEY ARE RESTRICTED BY TIME RESTRAINTS OF MOVIES AND MONEY. IN SUMMATION, AT THE END OF THE DAY, BOOKS AND MOVIES DO NOT OFFER THE SAME THING.

I DO WATCH MOVIES, BUT I ALSO READ. YOU EVER TRIED COMPARING MOVIES TO THE ORIGINAL TEXT? IT'S A RARITY FOR THE MOVIE TO SURPASS THE BOOK.

That episode of S.P. would have been a serious troll if this were the 1950s and New Criticism were still in vogue. But since at least the 1960s, critics have widely acknowledge a certain amount of epistemological uncertainty about interpreting just about any text. Depending on what one privileges as evidence, interpretations of a single text will vary widely.

So, yeah in that episode it was fun seeing everyone vomit every thirty seconds (totally didn't get old after the 20th time), but its critique didn't really offer anything fresh or thought provoking.

Well, my hobby of reading and writing makes me more adept to succeed in the professional realm where those tools are coveted. It helps me better my grasp of the English language and places me above illiterate retards like you OP.

Being a lazy couch potato wont get you anything but a lifetime of mindless entertainment and rings around your waist. If you're content with that, then fine, enjoy. But bugger off and leave me to the quiet solace of my books. I'm not hurting anyone and what do you care how I waste my days?

It probably wont get you laid either, whereas I can pretend like a hipster given all of the books I read and swim in the superficial poon by pretending to sound learned. In essence, you're reduced to the same carbon copy of the 35 million (or however many) other cows that tune in every week to see which second rate loser, who only went on the show because they weren't talented enough to cut it on their own without the influence of a media zeitgeist, will win "America's (Insert random hobby here)." To be short, Enjoy being bathed in the hollow embrace of that screen. Enjoy your crippled personality and a life of saying nothing insightful or worthwhile; for instance, that "books are meaningless." You're well on your way to the American dream of producing nothing and consuming all.

Besides, most TV is crap anyway and those special shows that aren't (namely AMC and HBO stuff) are highly literary. So, without knowing it, you probably enjoy literature too. South Park even has some elements of literature in there, even though they tend to think very highly of their own opinions and can be blunt about the point they're making. Good writers allow for some subtlety to wash over their audience but not South Park. They'd rather beat you over the head with their point and their violent animation and "shocking" use of derisive language so that 5 minutes into any episode you already understand what they're getting at and wish they'd move on to develop the idea further.

Then again, all of that is just like...my opinion, man, which I can acknowledge doesn't extend beyond the limits of my own brain, unlike you.
