Recently picked up reading as a hobby because I don't do anything anyways. Looking for some political or philosophically stimulating books (just read 1984 and it was pretty interesting)

First mistake, underage.
Allow me to enlighten you, kid.

Welcome to /lit/. We like to maintain a sensible degree of decorum here, and we don't have much tolerance for those in the business of casual psuedery. So you read a book? Great! I can tell you really have no clue what this place is all about just from that alone.

>B-but isn't this a board about literature anon??

No cocksucker, it isn't. If you don't have a working knowledge of The Greeks you may kindly show yourself to the door. You espouse a pithy-put inclination toward political discourse yet know nothing of the profound western lexicon of statecraft and Neoplatonic governance.
Simply put, that's not going to fly here.

It's pure psuedery, psudeo-intellectualism, psuedopigraphy, ect.

If there's a SINGLE word with my CAPACIOUSLY EXTENSIVE vernacular that has o'erleaped your plebian eardrumbs, you are not fit for this board.

Go watch some Jordan Peterson or something, then come back.

Enjoy Harry Potter, fuckface.

Sincerely, a /lit/erate.

I'd recommend reading Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. In my opinion, it's the best place to start when delving into classic literature. If you like that, check out The Brothers Karamazov, often considered Dostoevsky finest work.

Read An introduction to political philosophy by Jonathan Wolff. It's a short book and will give you a good overview of political philosophy. After that you can choose to branch off to main texts or pickup a textbook in whatever field interests you.

Not sure why u assume I know nothing about literature. I've read Plato, Aristotle, Plutarch and I've been watching Jordan Peterson lectures for years. The reason i wanted to get into reading in the first place is because I don't do shit with my life and I have so much free time that I want to commit myself to something
