Just through double dose of Shakespeare, also halfway through Paradiso, so I need something to rest my mind on. Detective fiction is usually good for it, but I'm nearly all through Agatha Christie, so I'm looking for something new. Anyone knows anything good of the sort?

Comfy, not dreary, but still needs to be brainy enough to be entertaining.

Picked this up for a buck at a used store. I’m almost all the way through, I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

Why not something by Dashiell Hammett? He's pretty comfy, and The Thin Man always cracks me up with all the drinking.

I would say most novels by Modiano.
