My mental health is declining, should I write a novel?

get a job instead. writing is a symptom, not a solution.

I'm already quite aware that writing won't cure me of my ailment.

Go for it, friendo. I started writing a few months ago to deal with mental illness. I wrapped up my symptoms as a single syndrome and started writing a soft sci-fi novel about them being the effect of a new virus. I'll probably never finish the novel, let alone release it, but it's been cathartic. I actually feel much better for it. Probably the same effect as talking through them with a therapist, minus the part where you line their pockets with thousands of dollars.

Haha, if I had thousands of dollars to give a therapist I probably wouldn't have declining mental health

All the more reason to write a novel.

I'd say go for it. I wouldn't fully recommend running away from all other responsibilities to do so but it is a good idea to at least try.

Its been proven that getting a job and partaking in outside life will improve your self-esteem. so if your a NEET I highly recommend you try and get a job. it might make you less of a self loathing cunt. Another thing to keep in mind that if you do have really low self-esteem to the point of depression you can't be picky about what job you get just getting one is the most important thing.
