Anyone familiar with Corruption of Champions? Can you recommend a fantasy novel with that level of degeneracy? Or at least something that comes somewhat close? I just want something really perverted in a fantasy setting but most romance novels are vanilla as hell plus they never get gay.

Outlandish is that the author tacked some weird gay marriage schtick onto it that goes nowhere mid story.
Op is an ability called corpse absorber and paradite that erase a lot of dramatic tension.

Why even bother at this point?

Been slowly working my way through the Dune novels, wasn't really sure I was that into it.

But I've reached God Emperor of Dune and I'm really liking it so far. It's what I've been wanting out of the series the whole time, and I could tell it was there but it just wasn't coming through right.

The slower pace actually allows it to explore things in depth, previous books were so fast paced and were struggling to just fit all the plot points in.

So when are we doing an anthology, gents?

Is witcher series any good? Was going to read them before playing the game, so it wouldn't spoil anything to me.

Game plot is seperate from the plot in the books, you can read the books first if you want.

Really I'd recommend reading The Last Wish, then Sword of Destiny, BEFORE playing Witcher 3, they set up a lot of the backstory in that game, and there are a few fun references.

Gonna write a gimmicky as fuck book called Streets of Steel that's basically Bernard Cornwell's take on "fantasy" via his Warlord Chronicles. But the catch is the setting will be a modern city and the story will be about a war between rival street gangs who don't use guns, but use swords, spears, axes, shields, etc. And the "magic" in the book will be of the possibly coincidental variety like Warlord Chronicles.

Is Malazan considered patrician around here? I tried it after >>10386826 and I'm amazed at the quality of the writing, or maybe I've just been reading lowbrow shit too long. Its not perfect but it's an order of magnitude better than what I've been used to recently.

Yeah, chinese cultivation is all about ambitious men wanting strength, which usually ends up in some form of godhood.
I can't think of any where a main character aspires to rule a kingdom, more where they just form one because it's more convenient to have a bunch of people working for you.

World of Cultivation has both kingdom, and army building, but more of a focus on the latter.
The thing is that these stories always have people leaving the land they were in before, and it basically becomes irrelevant later, but WoC at least doesn't make it completely irrelevant.

I recently finished reading the Artemis Fowl serie, which I started back when I was in its target demographic -so about 12- and outgrew before it was finished.

Reading it now, being in my twenties, I was surprised to find it pretty good, for a YA serie. So I know YA is pretty anathema around these parts, usually with good reasons, but out of curiosity, what's the opinion here about Artemis Fowl?

Branderson is writing quick intense character arcs with battles n' sheeit. Adolin literally challenged a bunch of people to arena duels and we had a little tournament arc with a great clusterfuck battle at the end.
It can pull heartstrings and be cool but it is unabashedly middle low brow entertainment. It is fluff, don't expect anything "great".

Branderson writes pretty dry "here's what happened" prose.
I'd frankly recommend mistborn the final empire. Its a fun book about assassin magic- The evil emperor is immortal and all powerful so some assassins and theives are planning to literally steal the treasury and watch the slaves make their own government whilst laughing their ass off as the immortal god emperor cries virgin tears. Things don't go to plan and people die.

Basically read Branderson if you won't feel gay for reading an anime with 4/6th grade vocab.

How is David Drake's fantasy stuff? I've read a lot of his scifi stuff but I've never bothered with the other stuff outside of one book about some Roman soldier getting contacted by time traveling aliens to stop another race of time traveling aliens from invading Earth that I didn't finish for some reason.

Philosophical concepts like reductive materialism and determinism are what matter to me most. Both of these are actually assumptions of the scientific method as A) experiments require repeatability based on controling initial circumstances and getting the same result needing determinism and B) physical evidence described the material world, even miracles would imply a physical, material God, albiet, greater than a human mind.

The mormon culture has lots of interesting ties to love of sci fi and fantasy. I'm not making the fedora "religion is fairy tales" argument because a lot of the stuff is really damn important. Enders game is really good, though I didn't enjoy later books of the Bean plot-line. Pretty much all the men in my ward had read the silmarillion or something to that level. Half of the shit isn't really important anyway, because he shifts the paradigm on a lot of things and forgets half of the character development from prior novels ever occurred, eg Kaladin the frown and his continuous revelations.
