Anyone familiar with Corruption of Champions? Can you recommend a fantasy novel with that level of degeneracy? Or at least something that comes somewhat close? I just want something really perverted in a fantasy setting but most romance novels are vanilla as hell plus they never get gay.

Currently reading pic related. Most OP element in the book is the characters' inability to see the irony in being emotional about being rational. The book is a bit too boring for it to detract from anything though. Whatever, Voyage of the Space Beagle is next and I'm excited as fuck.

Outlandish is that the author tacked some weird gay marriage schtick onto it that goes nowhere mid story.

Been slowly working my way through the Dune novels, wasn't really sure I was that into it.

But I've reached God Emperor of Dune and I'm really liking it so far. It's what I've been wanting out of the series the whole time, and I could tell it was there but it just wasn't coming through right.

The slower pace actually allows it to explore things in depth, previous books were so fast paced and were struggling to just fit all the plot points in.

Game plot is seperate from the plot in the books, you can read the books first if you want.

Really I'd recommend reading The Last Wish, then Sword of Destiny, BEFORE playing Witcher 3, they set up a lot of the backstory in that game, and there are a few fun references.

They are ok pop fantasy, nothing amazing.

Gonna write a gimmicky as fuck book called Streets of Steel that's basically Bernard Cornwell's take on "fantasy" via his Warlord Chronicles. But the catch is the setting will be a modern city and the story will be about a war between rival street gangs who don't use guns, but use swords, spears, axes, shields, etc. And the "magic" in the book will be of the possibly coincidental variety like Warlord Chronicles.

>I consider Echopraxia to be better because some of the consciousness stuff in Blindsight is nonsensical, i.e sentences that use unclearly defined terms and so are practically meaningless. I don't think that's down to Siri being crazy either, Watts just messed up, probably didn't have some stuff fully internalized, and it slipped by in the edit. It's a minor thing, and completely excusable considering how much the book gets right, and I haven't caught any such nonsense in Echopraxia at all.

I think BS did get a little ragged upon editing, but then a lot of people say its a lot easier to digest than Echo so perhaps it's for the best.
I literally just finished my fifth (?) re-read of Echo and only now am I really seeing everything the way I should.
Whichever anon described Watts prose as "badly describing a movie" in the last thread had struck gold I think, while I'm sure I've got Stockholm syndrome and kind of enjoy his wonky wording, a lot of it is very difficult to read

Yeah, chinese cultivation is all about ambitious men wanting strength, which usually ends up in some form of godhood.
I can't think of any where a main character aspires to rule a kingdom, more where they just form one because it's more convenient to have a bunch of people working for you.

World of Cultivation has both kingdom, and army building, but more of a focus on the latter.
The thing is that these stories always have people leaving the land they were in before, and it basically becomes irrelevant later, but WoC at least doesn't make it completely irrelevant.

Make up some shit that the moon blessed/cursed (Artemis) children are targeted by Persephone or some plant goddess as revenge against some slight that Artemis did back in the day. Because the cocoa bean was used in so many shit from the area where the first wolfmen emerged, the vengeful plant goddess made it poisonous to wolf kind (and canines in general). The wolfs kept this secret from everyone and encouraged the silver myth, (which actually empowers them because children of Artemis).

Fast forward to "it's the current year" your book takes place in.

>(blah blah x5)
>he runs in kitchen
>throws shit at Wolfe
>a tin of milo hits wolfe
>it blisters, runs away

True. Stormlight is a shonen anime.
Branderson is writing quick intense character arcs with battles n' sheeit. Adolin literally challenged a bunch of people to arena duels and we had a little tournament arc with a great clusterfuck battle at the end.
It can pull heartstrings and be cool but it is unabashedly middle low brow entertainment. It is fluff, don't expect anything "great".
>>10392333
Honestly, somebody with both intelligence and limited time won't enjoy them. A smart person without developed taste might love it as long as they are too autistic to devote themselves to the highbrow or getting a job.

Branderson writes pretty dry "here's what happened" prose.
I'd frankly recommend mistborn the final empire. Its a fun book about assassin magic- The evil emperor is immortal and all powerful so some assassins and theives are planning to literally steal the treasury and watch the slaves make their own government whilst laughing their ass off as the immortal god emperor cries virgin tears. Things don't go to plan and people die.

Basically read Branderson if you won't feel gay for reading an anime with 4/6th grade vocab.

All right stormlight faggots, Mormon kiddo here.

Branderson clearly based the Knights radiant on the Mormon priesthood.
In the mormom cannon, the good magic power native american jews lost to the bad magic power native american jews and were too sinful so they all died out plunging the world into an age of sin and false religions.

Then Joseph smith restored the Priesthood bringing back the mormon magic powers, Nephi basically force lightnings his brothers at one point. Mormon missionaries are literally on this power level.

Enter Stormlight archive about Dalinar bringing back the ancient oaths, getting called a heretic by the vorinists(christians), to restore surgebinding and the knights radiant, and travel around the world like missionaries.

When the prophet Joseph smith said he had to be faithful to his wife family and the mormon rules or else he couldn't use his magic powers, Nephi loses his powers at one point for disobediance, just like how Kaladin can't use surgebinding in book 2 when he betrays his oaths with syl.

Also the whole "unite them" deal is based on how Mormonism seeks world domination just in a friendly low-key manner, unlike islam, become the united world will stand against sin(voidbringers) or something.

The absolute fucking madman wrote an anime about HIS OWN RELIGION.

Sanderson is a better fiction writer than Joseph smith though- he writes fun fluff, the people who find his works artistically deep are the same people who think One Piece is literature. DO NOT read sanderson if you have disdain for plain speak and need actual themes and extended metaphors. The Guy literally writes religion into core plot points and he still says in interviews "It just entertainment" which it is.

That said, the original Mistborn trilogy may only be a battle shonen anime, but it is a fuckin gud battle shonen anime. Compare it to real /lit/erature like Thus Spake Zarathustra and Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus and it looks like dirty weeb shit.

Yes, I do have the magic powers officially still because deregistering is a bitch.
Nice pic, I sadly am less iron rod and more fedora. Church services are four hours long so one day I figured "What If I spend two hours listening to Atheist debates instead?"
My edgy atheist phase was pretty fuckin tame so far as it goes for most, though I was actually a "logic and reason boner" guy even when I was religous(MD PHD dad told be very basic chem stuff when I was 7 and I was fascinated). Even though I followed rules and was part of the community and well liked for being happy go lucky, I never felt le spirit or heard voices in my head other than my own. I prayed every day and they were resolved in a manner statistically matching the likely outcome of good and bad in a naturalistic world. The establishment for my faith was basically a pascals wager combined with stoic indifference to the possibility of other religions and investment in the cultural aspects.

Going full Christopher Hitchens actually didn't change my internal thought process, I was even a reductive materialist in the period I was religous, constructing an inner theology revolving around a material computer mind(just like human minds under materialist determinism) deterministic god.

Philosophical concepts like reductive materialism and determinism are what matter to me most. Both of these are actually assumptions of the scientific method as A) experiments require repeatability based on controling initial circumstances and getting the same result needing determinism and B) physical evidence described the material world, even miracles would imply a physical, material God, albiet, greater than a human mind.

Get a bit too /his/&Humanities but nobody really does &Humanities there so I feel fine posting this here.

To answer your question, hearing bad language isn't against any mormon language code, faggot isn't even a bad word, and I'm here in this thread to talk about fantasy and science fiction, but since you didn't bite on Alvin Maker you're obviously not a good conversation partner for true Mormoncore.

That stuff you said about priesthood/surgebinding was interesting, but I hadn't thought of it that way at all. I can see where Sanderson was influenced by LDS themes, now that you mention it, but until you read Orson Scott Card you have no idea how deep those can go.

Card does go way deeper. Its just funny how brandon gets lots of surface level plotting.
The mormon culture has lots of interesting ties to love of sci fi and fantasy. I'm not making the fedora "religion is fairy tales" argument because a lot of the stuff is really damn important. Enders game is really good, though I didn't enjoy later books of the Bean plot-line. Pretty much all the men in my ward had read the silmarillion or something to that level. I believe the book of Mormon is still available in Tolkien languages, which is super cool.(The ties to love of such literature are deep enough it took me 11 seconds to find an elvish ctr ring (https://ldsbookstore.com/lds-elvish-ctr-ring-regular)))) My mom is a >1000 WPM reading sci fi nut who filled shelves from room to room.

My whole family was babtized and my parents are from long mormon lines, every man in the family went on a mission and had great stories, don't talk down my life and devotion. My dad was literally interviewed in a big salt lake city magazine on gay people and "The Book Of Mormon" musical by the south park dudes. I was the last person in my family to leave the church and I assure you we were all very serious in our years of practice.
I stopped in early teens, don't expect me to have esoteric knowledge of the bible book of mormon and theology. Developing a practical evidentialist and materialist(a bit of BS, see, I saw spiritual substance merely as subatomic particles beyond calculation, which is actually consistent with many religion's doctrines) philosophy for everyday life isn't some kind of contrived religous heresy.

There is no sin in hearing bad words, but generally, a place like 4chan would be considered too unsavory. I would never have visited during those years. I was very keen on keeping "Damn" my harshest word, I personally never said "Oh my god" even at age 14/15. SFW boards should be fine for mormons to browse, in retrospect.

It's a bit funny how I went on a rant about the literally child-level theology I had. I am not here to debate over mormon doctrines, only "give my testimony" as they say.

Frankenstein is actually one of the first science fiction novels, to get back on thread topic, and that is my favorite novel.

The monster is a hyper eloquent anti-villian who is constantly brooding while switzerland is described in all its beautiful glory. I recommend Frankenstein to everyone and anyone.
Shelly references Paradise Lost and that is some high end poetry there, Shelly was so good at writing ABOUT that poem, I bought and read a physical copy.

It's the in-universe chronological order. It's a stupid reading order. Each series can be read independently and I don't suggest reading them in parallel. Finding out that Foundation is in the same universe as Robots is also a spoiler from the last book of the Foundation series so congratulations to whoever made this chart.

>> No.10394474

It's an alright reading order but I suggest inverting the 2nd and 3rd rows of this chart.
And the last 2 books in the Foundation series can be read after Robots and Empire too if you want.
The important part is that you read everything on the first 3 rows of this chart first before reading the last 2 rows, and Eternity comes last.

There's a lot of room for BOTNS fanfics.

It could be something during Severian and Dorcas' journey to Thrax. Very little is written about here, except they joined a caravan at some point, faced many hardships, and Severian offered his services to passing settlements like Saltus.

There is also the matter of Master Palaemon's exile as a youth.

Or perhaps something from an apprentice in the Bear Tower, Witch Tower, The House Azure bordello, the House Absolute antechamber, or from the POV or an Uhlan, a soldier in the Ascian war, a villager living by Lake Diurturna, or one of the miners of relics from Saltus.

Problem with Dune is there's a large section just after halfway through where it gets very dull and the author sort of goes off on this weird ecolog and faux-muslim vibe.

If you're a casual scifi reader I'd recommend Hyperion over Dune, unless you're just reading Dune because it's talked and memed about a lot, which is fair enough

There's a fan wiki called coppermind, and several subreddits under the central cosmere one. Sanderson regularly posts updates on his works there.

Half of the shit isn't really important anyway, because he shifts the paradigm on a lot of things and forgets half of the character development from prior novels ever occurred, eg Kaladin the frown and his continuous revelations.
