I remember a man who'd get himself in trouble at work occasionally because he'd get reminiscing to himself about some event or other, I couldn't really make out what the event was to be sure. He'd just sort of stand there looking into the distance and have no real sense of himself. He'd found a way, I imagined, to play over the same scene with no new additions or questions, just playing the scene like it always was, like someone would watch a rerun over and over again when they got older because they needed to be reminded of something in their life that was coherent. He was as much of an idiot as you'd imagine, and it gave me pleasure to see him get upset when he got fired. I like to imagine he suffered the uncertainty of reality for a few months before he found another job. It gives me pleasure to imagine that.
