I am writing a book about the 1800s/1900s London , what are some good books that show what it's like, so I can get the vibe, down architecture, culture, fashions? I was thinking about Sherlock Holmes. The story im writing is about a stray dog who goes from house to house and experiences the lives of black people.

>> No.10339326

wait so is the dog an allegory for black people in 19th century london or that dog is literally just going around checking out what the blacks up to

In these times when the book market is oversaturated with high fantasy d&d bullshit and crappy crime detective franchises, I think experimental fiction like this should be supported in every way.

Doesn't matter, it sounds stupid either way.

I almost forgot how in Victorian times stray dogs were fucking telekinetics

The dog is more interesting than the blacks.

I thought you just meant it was a regular dog. Regardless magic realism really cliche at this point

I'm not op, but at this point i'm defending anything that's not a high fantasy wanna be trilogy or some generic detectice vs criminal wannabe psychological thriller. The marked needs more variety, and even a telekinetic victorian dog is to be preffered at this point.

I totally disagree, what the market needs is quality not more stupid gimmicks

>> No.10340943

>>10340894
Well you ain't gonna get quality out of the current trends, so by supporting stupid but original gimmicks you might get some gems in the process.
