So here's the kicker. My body isn't what it used to be, and I find myself less and less interested in vidya as I get older. So I decided to start reading, to broaden my mind. I've tried my hand at writing too, but I never learned to type so I write it out like a caveman. So I'm struggling through For Whom the Bell Tolls, and my wife notices.

Her copy of Moby Dick is the best thing I've ever held. It's old as dirt, hardcover, the pages are pulpy as hell and I have to be gentle with it because it's so well-used. I've moved that bookshelf 3 fucking times and never once looked in it, now I practically live out of it. She's so much smarter than me it's a little embarrassing, but it's great talking to her about something she's so passionate about and she helps me out a ton.

I guess what I'm saying is don't be so defeatist. Some women do like cerebral things, some are even passionate about them. Don't get all bitter and angry. I believe in (you) Anons, you'll find the right one.

I'd venture to estimate she has about 250 books in that picture. I've been buying books since I was 15 and could easily fill her shelf there and probably still have 50 or 100 left over. And yes, I have read them all. It takes me a week to a week and a half to read a book, so I'm reading up to 50 books a year (real number is closer to 40 since many of the books are academic and take more scrutiny). And then if you estimate that the books are around 300 pages on average, that's only 42 pages a day if it takes you a week, which would probably take me between 90 and 120 minutes to read. If she makes her money on reviewing books and being an instagram bookwhore, it's not a longshot to say she could probably finish all the books in the picture within three years, especially since they're trash YA that's meant to be readable and is padded out by huge fonts and margins. The issue is that she reads only trash YA, not that she lies about it.
