Hey /lit/,

At my workplace, we have a representative who comes along every month and places a handful of discounted products in our staff room to sell (for charity IIRC). Most of the months there nothing that interests me, but every now and then there is something that really catches my eye. This month there is a collection of Roald Dahl books (the Phizz Whizzing Collection to be specific which contains 15 of his children books).

I've never been a huge bookworm but I'm sure that everyone at some point has read a book that they cannot put down. I remember reading one of his books; the BFG, back in my intermediate school years ago and I was kind of shocked at how amazing and absorbing a book could be. My first time that I ever had that experience.

I would really love to reread it for nostalgic reasons, but are his other books at the same quality? I've seen a couple of the movie adaptions and enjoyed them. I'm also a sucker for a good bargain and they're 25% off the RRP (but still quite expensive), but if they aren't as good as the BFG, I think I'll just pick that book up alone.

TL;DR - I've read Roald Dahl's The BFG. Are his other stories just as good?

sure are. his teen short stories 'skin' isn't bad either

i loved every book that i read by him (the bfg, james and the giant peach, the witches, charlie and the chocolate factory) i would say get them in case you have kids some day

The Witches, The Twits, the 2 Charlie books are every bit as good as the BFG. Maybe James and the Giant Peach, too.

Boy and Flying Solo are autobiographies, but each worth reading. They're just not remotely like the BFG.

"Esio Trot" is outright bad, don't waste your time, he wasn't up to his usual self by the time he wrote that.

I can't remember the others, to be honest. Except I think "Danny the Champion etc" and "George's Marvellous Medicine" didn't interest me much at the time.

Thanks guys (and gals?). three out of three. You're convinced me.

I don't plan on that happening anytime soon, but nevertheless, that's some good advice. Cheers.

You should get a collection of his short stories too. They're all fantastic.

All of them are great, Especially Mathilda, Mr. Fox, Danny the Champion, The Witches, and Georges Marvellous Medicine.

Personally I think all of those are better than BFG.
