How could we ever know if he indeed was the only one to understand Marx?

Yes, Danny DeVito is the only true marxist. If you're tall and handsome you cannot be anything other than a privileged bourgeois.

It's time to take the /Camus pill/ and realize that "scientific socialism" is crap and that authentic rebellion is the only solution.

all you have to understand about Marx is how he butchered Hegel by "making him stand on his feet". But for that you'd need to read Hegel, and Marxists dismiss him on principle for being an advocate of statehood as a representation of abstract individuality in opposition to the citizen as a representation of the particular individual will in general and the way the Prussian state embodied this in particular.
Once you understand what Hegel meant when he described thought as an organic process driven by its internal oppositions, Marx idea of resolving the tensions between private and public/political life unifying the individual and universal reveal themselves to be the recipe for disaster they really are.

Marx critique of the Jewish mentality was a pretty entertaining read though, so I'll give him at least that much.
