Learn to read fluently. Learn the history of Korea. Confucianism and Buddhism is a humanist religion and there were significant historical figures who had impressive political philosophies. This includes Jung Do Jeon who proclaimed the King is nothing without the people and tried to make a limited democracy and of course Sejong the great who made one of the most intuitive writing systems ever. In terms of poetry and literature it's a little less accessible but I'd recommend Yun Dong Ju.
