Given that the entirety of religion is just an abstraction of worldly human processes, in order to allow self reflection before self reflection, it is a given that it fits onto worldly events. It was created as a concept to explain them.
But I am fairly sure in buddhism Karma stays throughout reincarnation, which certainly gives it an element of mystique.

Mankind cannot bear the completely uncaring and meaningless nature of the universe - and so they filled it with idols made in their own image. Though we may play epistemological games with whether our knowledge can be sure about either the existence or nonexistence of a god or gods, much less a specific god or a specific set of gods out of the thousands that humans have worshipped throughout history, one fact remains the same - just because we want it to be real will never make religion any more real than any fairy tale.
