Unpopular opinion threads are a way for the emotionally needy to gain validation by spouting opinions that were created in anger towards people that have wronged them. Most of the unpopular opinions are contrarian in the public sphere but entirely accepted on here and they are just a way to fit in with the edgy 4chan narrative.
