Why do young people are bored reading Tolkien? It is common to read complaints about his extensive descriptions of landscapes or objects. Does it have anything to do with anxiety and notification addiction?

I saw JRRT at a grocery store in Oxford the other day. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

There will never be another author like Tolkien ever again. Truly one of the greatest of all time. One of my favorite things about him (i forget where it was from) he was asked when he started writing LotR and he basically said that he doesn't know because he doesn't remember a time in his life where he wasn't working on the lore. He had the perfect mixture of dedication, knowledge of ancient mythos, autism, and understanding of linguistics. We shall never see his like again.

>'ProudFEET!' Shouted an elderly hobbit from the back of the pavilion. His name, of course, was Proudfoot, and well merited; his feet were large, exceptionally furry, and both on the table. Proudfoots, repeated Bilbo

What? I don't get it
Was Proudfoot joking or what? Why?
In the movie it seems that Bilbo misspelled his surname and it was funny but in the book is what the fuck
so movie>book?

It's true. His writing is truly awful.

Should the Lord of the Rings be considered part of western canon?

I know Tolkien wasn't a prose master but his works are known by nearly everyone in the western world.

Can anyone ever really one-up Tolkien in terms of fantasy and lore? I feel like Tolkien is the genre's end-game, and to try to write something better would only be presumptuous.

What is the best and / favourite quote from any piece of novel / fictional media?

e.g: “I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

“People make mistakes in life through believing too much, but they have a damned dull time if they believe too little.”

He pretty much created fantasy as we know it and the world he created is pretty interesting

BUT

his writing style is tiresome the descriptions are seriously too long and the pace is too slow
