>The slave girl woke me before the first light. Our fire was nearly out, and she was breaking sticks across her knee to add to it. "I'm sorry, master," she said. "I tried to do it as quietly as I could."
>I felt I knew her, but I could not recall the time or place where we had met. I asked who she was.
>"Io. It means io - 'happiness' - master."
>"And who am I?"
>"You're Latro the soldier, master."
>She had thrice called me "master." I asked, "Are you a slave, then, Io?" The truth was that I had assumed it already from her tattered peplos.
>"I'm your slave, master. The god gave me to you yesterday. Don't you remember?"
>I told her I did not.

It is the hardest of the feels.

Critiquing is the worst shit ever

>at parents for a month before summer
>my teenage brother has a poetry club in his high school
>timidly asks if I could come and review their works

>drop by high school next day
>leads me to a shitty study room that has a bookshelf in the rear
>5 kids total, an emofag and chubby girls, the rest are beta nerds
>introduce myself and try to break the ice but they all seem constipated
>some dude goes first and hands me his notebook
>no drafts or anything, everything is written on the fly
>ask him where is drafts are
>"Oh I just keep everything"
>shrug it off
>prose shit about how life is meaningless written with a thesaurus
>morbid silence while I turn the pages frowning
>little bro giving me footsies under the table for me to be nice
>"What exactly are you trying to express here ?"
>"I'm not really sure myself"
>"So why do you write ?"
>awkward silence
>laugh it off and explain the concept of poetic intent
>suddenly realize I'm a complete asshole trying to force academic conceptions on clueless childs
>try to do a 180° at this point and to pat the dude on the back
>ask him who is his favorite poete to ease the mood
>"Well, I don't really read poetry ..."
>have no idea what to do at this point to not make this a total massacre
>spend like an hour gently reviewing teenage angst and trying to give advice on metre on form so I don't have to criticize themes
>get home
>realize brother hasn't made me read anything by him
>later tonight catch a glimpse of him deleting some files on his computer

I'm sorry guys I didn't know what to do, I didn't want to hurt your feelings neither do I wanted to lie.

Fine whatever fuck.

She wrote a play for her, made her cry during our recital of it, wrote her a poem, stopped talking to her, she broke up with her boyfriend and then posted pictures of herself with quotes from my osnnet in them.

Fine fuck whatever.

I am merely animated clay
Cognition is my delight
Instinct is my bane
I have slaves I don't want
But I bother not with guilt
It's out of my control
Nearly everything is out of my control
My choices are not options

I am left with only one option
To opt out

Do I opt in opting out?

I have seen recurrent authors taking amphetamines for writing. I readed something on huxley and mescaline. And I know from sources, that a trip of mescaline is like having lucid dreams. I wonder how it feels like to write under that substance.

I just read "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men #6" by David Foster Wallace.
This piece made me feel physically tired as I tried to deal with the vocabulary (because I'm not on Wallace's level), but the non-linear narrative structure that's built around a character's monologue.
The mental ramifications make it hard to accept what I've read, but it all makes sense in a convoluted way; yet I can't explain how I feel about it.
The emotional hole left in me is something like the emptiness the interviewee expresses. A shallow emotionless hole, and realization that I don't really feel the emotion, but a charade of what I think is that emotion. It's something that would make you cry out of self pity, because you can't feel or comprehend what the other people are feeling--like how the MC can't really fathom what the girl felt. He knows, but he doesn't understand it.
I'm not going for some angsty edgy emotional shit, it's more of a confrontation of how (emotionally and otherwise) shallow I realize I am after reading the piece.

I'd recommend watching the rest. After TNT picked it up from NBC, it grew a pair of balls. And each season is exponentially better than the one before.

Fuck. I remember that. Raistlin/Caramon was pretty heavy stuff for me at that age. I identified a lot with Raistlin too, so I was pretty affected.
