/lit/, isnt it weird in literature and art that the mundane is pushed to be something beautiful and worthwhile

yet we dread the sentimental?

Why do people ages 18-24 (mostly girls) who say they're writers only write poetry and short stories? Every time I meet a fellow young writer they say they write poetry and short stories.

Usually they don't even read that much.

Why is this?

Why are modernism, post-modernism, and anything that deems itself the thing after post-modernism so difficult to define?

Is there something someone could point me to read on this? Wiki and google arent very helpful since everyone seems to disagree on these things.

/lit/, me and my friend want to make a manga, and we were thinking what kind of moral or message it should have. We started thinking about if our culture needs some sort of message, and that got us thinking if that even makes sense anymore compared to older generations who seemed to have works of art carry universal themes of that generation.

Does our generation have this sort of thing? I know there is a lot of talk about post modernism versus new sincerity, but is that it?

Aristotle
Honestly, that would be the first thing I would recommend, and it would be a fuck ton easier than going through Hegel.

Honestly, youre going to have to push through B&T either way. He explains things in a weird way, where he just starts talking about a new idea, and then at the end gives his thesis and clarifies everything for this new idea, then does the same procedure for the next idea.

Also, dont get stuck on his loop of logic. I know two people who read B&T when I was reading it and they couldnt see outside of his logic and assumptions. I would bring up something that was different than Heidegger, and they would instantly dismiss it by explaining how what Heidegger was talking about had a "priority" (its the best way I can explain this loop) over other topics because his ontology is based on Dasein (humans), so you always think "this abstract idea X comes after my Dasein way of understanding it, therefore Heidegger's description of our necessary perspective is outside of this conversation". Dont fall for this. Im not saying Heidegger is wrong, but this sort of logic is dangerous, especially considering all of B&T is based on begging the question (Heidegger will admit this in the intro).

Anyway, good luck, B&T is pretty genius

To put it another way, I really want this quote to ring true in the story.

Even with the utterly lost, “to whom life and death are equally jests”, there are matters of which no jest can be made. - Poe

Mainly I try and remind myself that the things im worrying about, helping brother/mother/father get a job/home, money basically, is not something to worry about. That im working myself over this big hypothetical downward spiral when really im pretty fine.

I remind myself by having a cigarette while looking at something good, like art, a nice view, or reading something.

Also, nice taste OP

Isn't it stupid for all the philosophers who have solipsistic ideas to publish any books about said ideas? Since, you know, the people who they are writing the book for don't actually exist.

I had a couple outlines for plots, character studies here and there, eventually one of the plots really got to me and I found an author whose writing style inspired me.

Write now im writing two POV's for the book, one character in 1st person, the other in 3rd. Im just messing to see what I like, and the two characters need to be fleshed out since theyre the main characters. I have a small outline, but mainly im letting the characters "do what they want", and I try to put them in interesting places to be themselves.

Besides that, whenever some detail or line comes to me I write down in my phone, or on a notebook if its near.
