Please to recommend some works in the same vein as above.

I actually finished Broom of the System last, but I don't recommend it, yet I am gonna finish this one today, and it is actually good.

I've been meaning to read this for years, always putting it off because of the depressing subject matter.
Picked up a cheap copy recently and got through it in a day, really enjoying it. The details on the routines and dynamics of the camp were interesting, but the relationships between the prisoners are what really stood out imo; camaraderie, distrust, pity, envy etc.

Any recommendations for similar books? Not necessarily Soviet ones.

Am I a fucking idiot for thinking that the setting of this book seems really comfy? Of course, I realise the real life horrors that people in the gulag were exposed to, but the way in which the book is written, and the way in which Shukhov overcomes his daily problems just made me really warm inside.
Should I re-read the book, or do you share these views as well?

How many people are living indefinite, hopeless lives in camps right now, /lit/?
How divergent in human experience would the sentence of a North Koeran in the camps be to this book, anons? The North Koreans have no religion or culture outside the state to depend upon - would their manuafactured, strictly censored culture have anything to get them through the meaninglessness of internment?
