What do you think about Dostoyevsky's Brothers Karamazov?

I am 1/3 in, and i can't urge myself to keep reading. I am constantly disappointed by the characters I was actually looking forward to being presented (especially by Ivan, from his story at the beginning of the book he seemed the one i would be the most interested in, but so far everything about him is a let down), the philosophical issues they raise are of no interest to me and everything is just moving very slowly. I feel like the whole book could be condensed into one third of its' size.

Should i keep reading? does it get better?
