First, Conan's partner almost always lives. It's this struggle for survival that makes the stories and the character so iconic and enjoyable.

It got buried in the last thread so I'll ask again, does anyone have an opinion on whether I should read a TSR Black Sun novel or Tarsnman of Gor for my next comfy Sword and Sorcery book?

Most of my stories involve cowboys fighting pirates over gold in a post-apocalyptic waste. They'll never get published, likely aren't great, but I feel good writing them. Don't hold back my man.

I feel you anon. Everyone has already recommended the best places to go with Howard so you might try Edward Rice Burroughs who was another pulp writer that inspired Howard. I plan on reading more of him when I get through all of Howard's stuff, myself.
