I watched a guy play it on stream and it was supremely comfy. Got me to check out the books.

Those old TSR artists were something else. Worth buying the OG books just to have the covers.

First, Conan's partner almost always lives. Second, even on the rare instances when he doesn't get away with the gold the true victory in Sword and Sorcery is that Conan always survives whatever monstrous encounter he comes across. It's this struggle for survival that makes the stories and the character so iconic and enjoyable.

It got buried in the last thread so I'll ask again, does anyone have an opinion on whether I should read a TSR Black Sun novel or Tarsnman of Gor for my next comfy Sword and Sorcery book?

Afraid I don't read enough Sci Fi to give a good comfy rec anon, but sounds like a relaxing weekend.

>I'd write about pirates and hawkmen and wizards and monsters and cowboys looking for gold
Most of my stories involve cowboys fighting pirates over gold in a post-apocalyptic waste. They'll never get published, likely aren't great, but I feel good writing them. Don't hold back my man.

Write about both. Howard did it with Kull and Conan.

The Conquering Sword of Conan, the last of the Howard collection from Del Rey can't wait!

>No fantasy I've read comes close to his stuff
I feel you anon. Everyone has already recommended the best places to go with Howard so you might try Edward Rice Burroughs who was another pulp writer that inspired Howard. I plan on reading more of him when I get through all of Howard's stuff, myself.
