- Weaves fiction and non-fiction together, i.e. writes historical novels

- Books aren't too short or too long, 300 - 500 pages

- Magical realism

Seriously, she's a pretty good author. Some of her books are average, yes, but she's written a few good and great books as well, and has never written a bad book.

I don't get why people hate on her so much. She's not even pulpy. She has easy reads, but that doesn't mean they're trashy or shallow. There's something quite compelling about her skimming over time prose, and the magical realism she espouses, the latter done better than Marukami or Bolano.

Does it matter that betwen 80 and 100% of your stories are made up? Does that concern you?

I've read a number of her books, and like her very much. Her characters and plots are alright, but her 'skimming' prose is best. She never describes anything in too much detail, just has 6 months pass by in a single chapter. I noticed Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses a similar style. I don't understand why some people hate this writer so much, especially the intelligentsia in Chile.
