Let them explain you, in detail, what is the "scientific" answer to the Socratic question "What is the good life?"

Don´t forget to remind them that saying "whatever you want it to be" or "there is no answer" is nothing more than an admission of their ignorance and inability to deal with the most fundamental problem of both philosophy and human life as such.

This gentleman is well known for his profound interpretations of many a philosopher, most notably Plato, but he wrote on almost every important thinker. He writes with unmatched clarity and is free of obfuscating jargon.

Given you´re reading Plato and Aristotle, I suggest you take a look at Strauss´ City and Man.

In my experience there´s no secular thinker that takes the claims of revealed religion more seriously than Leo Strauss. Try reading the first two and half pages of his lecture On the Interpretation of Genesis; if you like it, I can give you more recommendations when I get back (in ca. 4 hours).

You know, maybe I´m just stupid, but I´d rather spend my time with something that makes sense. There´s much more beauty in unraveling the ocean in the shell than trying to fix something that was broken to start with.

>How did the 2004 winner of the Leo Strauss Award manage to produce a final manuscript without ever mentioning Leo Strauss? Perhaps the vernacular answer should be: “That is so Straussian!”
