The Star Diaries
Dropped out, I was doing Bio for a few years.
I don't regret it, it got me out the house. I realise I should go back to do something or other, but I like working in a pub. Everyone I work with is a graduate anyway.
I'll save my money and go travelling, I think that's a better use of my time and money.

I dropped out, I was only token STEM anyway, and clearly not in for the long haul.
Now I work in a pub and read a lot more. I'm friends with my coworkers and generally am much happier.

I just started this today. About an hour ago I finished book i. Here's my question

I cant seem to conclude that either Achilles or Agamemnon is in the wrong. They both seem to be acting appropriately. Is the moral (of book i) that conflict is inevitable?

God is above understanding. That doesn't mean He is logically incoherent. All that means is that we are finite.

Modern technology changes the way we look at the world (in a negative way). The (apparently) only way out of the technological mindset is through art.

This week I'm going to find out Heidegger's thoughts on art. He wrote an essay called The Origin of the Work of Art which I'm going through. Next weekend (or whenever I finish that) there'll be a new thread on art and whether it is a proper antidote to technology.

For people just coming into the thread (I recommend going through the whole thread), I think mine and another anon's consensus was that, though people have always looked at each other and nature in part as "standing-reserve" (as ready to be used), modern technology has greatly exasperated the whole situation. The connections between this mindset and the nihilistic culture remain to be thought out.

Perhaps you can help me with another problem I've been stumbling over: did Socrates corrupt the youth? That is to say, what is the role of reason in one's life? What does justification matter?

After studying medieval philosophy for a bit I've become all too familiar with the phrase "faith seeking understanding." For the longest time I have wanted to invert this line ("understanding seeking faith") but have seen no way out.

The legitimacy of faith now seems stronger by a thousand-fold, as I have seen, I have lived the life of "reason" and seen where it leads.

That is a bit incoherent, my thoughts on this matter are not at all put in order.

Why the fuck did you mirror that image?
Also pretty much every book ever. However you won't find passion beyond books in books. Just start to do things and keep doing what you like.

Thanks anon, I'll check him out. What do you think of "The immense journey"? That seems to be his most popular work.

Do you guys watch tv or film or is literature your sole source of entertainment?

I personally would like to shift fully to reading, but I fear it would inhibit my search to end tfw no gf. From what I understand, however, all that 98% of females do is watch netflix and browse social media.

Mmmmmmm we can lay in bed while it rains outside. And I can make tea for both of us. Then we can go for a walk in the neighborhood and you can pin me against a wood fence, wet with the rain and smell of wet flowers and dead leaves. And you can kiss me:)

What would you say is essential in order to improve your writing? An active voice in the narration? Showing the reader how a character feels rather than telling them? Improve your grammar?

I really want to get into writing, but my writing is a mess. What are some ways to improve myself? I haven't taken any /lit/ related class in five years. What do you do to improve /lit/?
