Sean Goonan is a great writer. The foundation for exploration is one of the best philosophical creations of this era, surpassing gods like Jordan Peterson with his 12 Rules for Life or Zizek. You need his book.

Sean Goonan is on a whole other level than any of these snake oil salesmen hacks. I wonder how long it will take for people to catch on. If not in the next 5 years then most likely some time after the incoming civilizational collapse in the next 50 years where he will be rediscovered and people will unite to build a new harmonious society that aligns with his ideas.

I decided to give Goonan and “The Foundation for Exploration” a shot, figuring that maybe he has a decent idea or two if he calls it the most important event in history, and if not I’d have a good laugh at his expense. I can respect him for trying to shill it because he has many things to say. The Foundation is a manifesto calling for a revolution. I enjoyed the informal style, similar to Ted Kaczynski’s “Industrial Society and Its Future”. I find Goonan’s core ideas on why we act the way we do illuminating and highly applicable to daily life. He bases all of his ideas off of his “duality of human nature”, which says we can act either destructively or constructively given free will in a meaningless existence, and defines these two paths extensively in the beginning and throughout the book. The application of the philosophy to sex, economics, and aesthetics was eye-opening. The book represents a total wholistic rejection of modern society, and I feel like something like this has been needed for a long time.
