Are the works of Robert Anton Wilson worth reading, if yes where should I start (if there isn't a chart for that)?
From the few bits I have read from him he seems like one of the few people who you could have seriously described as wise.

>The narrative shifts between different characters haphazardly, interactions and parallels are interesting so it's worth jotting minimal notes to track the different threads.

RAW was a big fan of James Joyce.

keep in mind it was written in the sixties and seventies, when the world did not have the benefit of a global internet that let teenagers be edgy in real-time.

OP: the Illuminatus! trilogy, the Schrodinger's Cat trilogy, the Historical Illuminatus trilogy even though it ends on a fucking cliffhanger and he died before writing another book, and "Masks of the Illuminati", because James Joyce and Albert Einstein teaming up to confront Aleister Crowley.

late sixties / early seventies.

it's used frequently in the Illuminatus! books, because Wilson used to do editorial work for the Playboy Letters column.

sixties' lit. it was cool in the seventies, when paranoia, drugs, weird sex and revolution was a new thing. if you read it as a sixties artifact, it's pretty good. it has aged about as well as any other sixties' text has.

"To be absolutely honest, although I don't believe in anything too fervently, I do tend to believe in some kind of mind behind the cosmos. I don't like calling it God, because God to most people means a grouchy old man sitting on a cloud, counting all the kids who are masturbating so he can put them in hell later on."

i think he's referring to the James Joyce fanboi structure, which was pretty fucked up.

there is a story, but RAW had a hard-on for Joyce and wanted to play some games with the narrative.

i just wish he'd lived long enough to finish the Historical Illuminatus books. the last one strongly implies there was going to be a fourth.
