I've started trying to get books from #bookz, but I'm having trouble with one in particular that there's only one version of, and which isn't responding when I request it.

New to this, so maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but can anyone help?

Book I'm trying to get is "!FlipMoran Consuls and Res Publica Holding High Office in the Roman Republic (2011) - Hans Beck et al.pdf ::INFO:: 2.7MB" .

Also, I couldn't find any versions at all of "Libertas as a Political Idea at Rome during the Late Republic and Early Principate" on there, would anyone be able to help with that?

In your lifetime, no matter how hard you try, you will probably not be able to read more than 8,000 books.

Do you ever get a little disappointed? Like, there's so much more out there, and more books are being written every day, but you probably won't even be able to catch up on your backlog.

How do I write a long novel? I have an outline and I wanna get started, but I'm not motivated nor do I have the attention span to write such a massive novel.

Can someone recommend me a good, fairly easy to digest book that will give me a basic understanding of Economics over a train journey?

I'm writing a paper on how readers experience fiction, why we immerse ourselves so readily in fictional worlds and people. I figured I could extend my research question to the /lit/ board, and see what responses I got. Thanks to anyone participating (yes, even the people who aren't going to answer the questions.)

Questions:

What effect does immersion in fiction have on you as a reader? What do you get out of it? Do you feel relaxed, satisfied, excited? Why do you think people so readily take to fictional environments? What draws you in to a story? Characters? Setting? Plot?

Do you think willing suspension of disbelief plays a role in how you read and experience fiction?

Again, thanks for any answers! If I get anything useful, I might use it in the paper.

I've already asked /adv/ but I thought I'd ask this board too.

Need your help.
I've got a year to write a 6000-10,000 word short story for a final year assessment.
I know I'm supposed to get ideas myself, but can you help me get the ball rolling with some ideas? I want to make it very macabre, very sombre, dreary, noire. Scary.
Thanks :)

It's about a boy who can look at a picture and see the moment it was taken(I think). I know that he would see them moving and hear them talking. I know in one part while he was looking at a picture of a friend his friend could see his face in a bowl of ice cream he was eating. I distinctly remember he had one or two aunts who enrolled him in a school with other kids like him and some normal students to hide it. He had an uncle who could control lights I think. There was a part where he was standing outside his nephew's window and made the street lights flicker. I'll add more information as it comes to me but so far that's all I can remember.

When do you guys do most of your reading? I usually read a few pages to a couple of chapters before I go to bed, depending on how tired I am.

I BEG YOU, please help me find this book title/series!!! I've tried it all, hours of looking.

I only have vivid details too:
-At least 10 years old.
-Series of books (maybe for young readers), at least 3 books long.
-Three main characters are: A girl, a gambler who does card tricks/illusions, and an oracle.
-There are goblins in it.
-Come from different places/dimensions--get chased out and meet up because of it.
-Oh, the gambler guy was chased out of his home place by thugs.
-Oh again, the illusion guy is taken away because he walks out of his house to a bland world (since nobody goes outside), and I think dogs...chase him away into a portal? Ughhh.

That's all the details I have so far. SORRY!

I just wanted some opinions on this subject.

How would you rank the 4 entertainment mediums by mental stimulation?

Anime ( not in my native language so have to pay attention to subtitles )

Video Games ( I know this varies depending on the game, but just rank it, ok? )

Reading ( Novels, not magazines or the internet)

Watching TV or Movies

Interested in sharing a little to see what you people think..

Okay, so my friend very half assedly described a book in an attempt to remember what it was. It was taught in our school curriculum.

It was about a tribal group that is told not to eat food from other places but their own, because they would die. They end up finding out that it is because of radiation, and that it all actually takes place in a post apocalyptic society long after a nuclear war. Anything come to mind?
