And done. 10/10 it's okay.

My enjoyment was bogged down a lot by just how frequently my suspension of disbelief was stretched by the concept of the twin cities and breach. Many details are quite well thought out but for me that doesn't absolve just how shaky the foundation is. I suspect that Mieville is the kind of writer that doesn't like to fall back on magic to explain things. I'd be okay with that if the cities were a metaphor for a broader concept, but none is explored, it's just a novel idea. I'm also not a fan of the reveal for just how mundane it is, and the amount of exposition required to explain Bowden's involvement is clumsy.

Despite that I quite like the way that Mieville writes. The narrative is well paced and his dialogues read quite naturally, with a lot being left to infer.
