Thoughts on Sylvia Plath?
I read The Bell Jar recently and quite liked it. I loved how bitter and cynical Esther was, and all the boomer witticisms like "broad," and "ugly as sin" that were used. I also liked how it ended at a totally different place under totally different circumstances than where it began. And the ending was delightfully and subtly ambiguous. The descriptions of electro-shock therapy and of her descent into madness were vivid and relatable, and those paired with a cutting nihilism made the book feel refreshing, like she was voicing every reader's secret resentments. It was good. Read this book.

Just finished this. I thought it was going to end happily (which I realize is contrary to Sylvia Plath's real-life story, and the book is supposed to be roman-a-clef, so...), but the last page totally threw me for a loop and now I don't even know what happened. Any thoughts on this book, especially the ending?
