It's called the All Guardsmen Party.

Honestly I don't know if you'd find it palatable. It's an amateur work, if you get twitchy over occasional comma misuse I wouldn't recommend it. Additionally, it certainly is a piece of /tg/ writing, and while not required, basic knowledge of the background makes it much more enjoyable. I'd even recommend skipping the prologue chapter if you aren't familiar with /tg/.

Those caveats aside, it's a wonderful series of military science fiction stories. There's amusing dark humor, enjoyable action scenes, and I actually found myself caring about the characters. It's a fun read, and I'll probably go re-read it in a month or so when the next chapter is published.

Sorry for the essay, I'm not sure why I felt the need to write a miniature review in a thread no one is likely to read. Here's a link to the 1d4chan page, from there the actual story is hosted on a google site as well as the /tg/ archives.

As others have said, Dan Abnett's stuff is good. His Eisenhorn series is considered the best Inquisition series from BL and Guant's Ghosts are all good Imperial Guard stories.

The Ciaphas Cain series by Sandy Mitchell is a fun, lighter-toned read focused on the Imperial Guard as well.

William King's spacewolf books are good too, but somewhere in the series it switches authors and goes down hill.

Finally, as a /tg/ denizen, I really recommend reading the All Guardsmen Party storytime series. It's officially a RPG writeup and doesn't have the same level of polish you get from novels, but it's the most fun I've had reading a 40k story in years.

(I recommend the HTML version if you're just there for the story)

Hey folks, I was wondering if I could get your input on an ongoing /tg/ storytime series called the All Guardsmen Party.

It is a story about bravery, incompetence, and the excessive use of detpacks set in the grimdarkness of the fortieth millennium. The tale follows a group of guardsmen from their origin in the mud and blood to their rise as one of the premier Inquisitorial teams on the sub-sector

Now unfortunately this is a big ol' thing and at heart it is a write-up of an Only War and Dark Heresy campaign, but it only briefly touches on the mechanics in the first two chapters. It shouldn't be much of a problem if you haven't played tabletop games and while knowing the setting helps, it's not necessary.

That said you can find the whole story in a slightly cleaned html format hosted by google-docs here:

Or the original posts cane be found in the archive here:

Any literary input or discussion would be most welcome, even if it's just a recommendation that I sodomize myself with the entire works of Leon Trotsky instead of bothering you.
